In the beginning God made two perfect people, Adam
and Eve. He wanted them to be His friends and to look after
the world. Sadly, they chose to disobey Him. This Sin ruined
their relationship with God and affected the whole of the
human race for ever. The things that each of us do
wrong separate us from God. God loves us and wants to be our
friend, but we can't enjoy a relationship with Him while there
is sin in our lives. You may try to please Him by doing good
deeds, but they'll never be good enough and they won't cancel
out your sin. You're imprisoned by it.
So How do
you get rid of your sin?
The answer is you can't! God has to do it
for you. That's why He sent Jesus in the world. Jesus lived
a perfect life and deserved to be totally accepted by God.
Instead, He allowed God to punish Him on the cross for you.
You deserve to die for your sin, but Jesus died in your place.
By rising from the dead He demonstrated that He's still alive
and will give you eternal life if you come to Him.
To become a Christian
you must:
- Admit to God that you've sinned against Him. Tell Him
that you're really sorry for the things that you've done
wrong and that you're going to stop doing them.
- Believe that when Jesus Christ died on the cross, He
took the punishment for your sin.
- Ask Jesus to come into your life, take away your sin and
give you eternal life.
You might find this prayer helpful:
"Lord Jesus Christ I am sorry for the
things I have done wrong in my life (take a few moments to
ask his forgiveness for anything particular that is on your
conscience). Please forgive me. I now turn from everything
which I know is wrong. Thank you that you died on the cross
for me so that I could be forgiven and set free. Thank you
that you offer me forgiveness and the gift of your Spirit.
I now receive that gift. Please come into my life by your
Holy Spirit to be with me for ever Thank You, Lord Jesus.
Amen"
